Cork Con go top of the table
Cork Con 24 Garryowen 8
(HT: Cork Con 14 Garryowen 0)
Skipper Ultan O'Callaghan led Con to the Trevor Barry Memorial Cup and the top of the Division One table in front of a bumper crowd at Temple Hill, as they overcame rivals Garryowen 24-8.
O'Callaghan crashed over under the posts in the fourth minute for the opening try in his 100th AIL game, which scrum-half Pat McCarthy converted.
Simon Kerr and Dominic Crotty returned to bolster the Con line-up, and they didn't have to wait long until centre Cian O'Mahony raced over for the home side's second, converted again by McCarthy, the League's top scorer, for a 14-0 half-time lead.
The young Garryowen side has disappointed so far this season and looked a long way off the side that defeated today's host 34-13 at Dooradoyle last season.
They did get an early second-half score through the boot of Mark Connolly and 23 minutes into the half saw Shane Leahy score their only try.
McCarthy took his season's tally up to 59 points, but he failed to add on the extras to out-half Steven McColl's and Brendan O'Connor's tries in the second-half as Con ran out easy bonus point
winners.
