Promoted Dolphin took the first win of their Division One lives, relying on two first-half tries from centre Mike Pettman to beat eighth-placed Mary’s and leapfrog them in the table.

Pettman scored twice for a hat-trick of league tries after just two games.

Out-half John O’Mahony, contributor of twenty points in Dolphin’s league opener last weekend against Co Carlow, got them off to a good start with two early penalties before Pettman struck for his first try on 16 minutes.

His second followed soon after, converted well by O’Mahony, and as half time arrived the home side had a 24-3 advantage.

The Dubliners’ only points had come from the boot of Barry Lynn in the opening period and he continued to keep his side in the hunt with five second-half penalties, but crucially the Dolphin defence held out for a deserved win, despite no further scores from Hamish Adams’ Munster men.
