Ireland pipped by Wallabies

Ireland were pipped by one solitary point as Australia moved into the World Cup quarter-finals as Pool A winners, condemning gallant Ireland to a last-eight showdown with in-form France.

That it was the finest game of the World Cup, played out in front of an incredible crowd in Melbourne, will do little to console Ireland who played with heart, soul and guts, trying everything to break the Wallabies.
