Newly-promoted Dolphin suffered defeat at Carlow’s Oak Park, in the first meeting between these sides for three seasons.

Some strong running and a pack ascendancy saw Carlow take a 21-16 half-time lead and they pressed home their advantage as Dolphin tired in the second half.

The home side nabbed four tries, with the scores coming from number 8 Andy Mleville, prop Kenneth Ashmore, wing Ian Dwyer and impressive centre Tom Bonnefoy.

Australian out-half Ben Young added the extra points.
