Wood proud of team's efforts

Ireland captain Keith Wood felt proud of his side after 64-7 thrashing of Namibia in Canberra today.

The Irish were rarely tested by their World Cup Pool A opponents as they ran out convincing winners with Alan Quinlan and Eric Miller both scoring two tries apiece.

The game was played in heavy rain and Wood was pleased with the way Ireland coped with the conditions.

He told ITV: “We can take an awful lot out of of the game. The weather was horrendous out there, there was a lot of ball being spilled but we kept scoring those points and kept our discipline. We kept them under pressure so I was very happy.

“We’ve been training in lovely weather all week and we were hoping for it today but I’m very proud of the men.

“They showed a lot of heart and effort and throughout the skill level was very good.”
