Afeaki back in contention

Tonga captain Inoke Afeaki could feature against Wales on Sunday after he was today cleared of possible concussion.

Afeaki was stretchered from the ground during Wednesday night’s 36-12 defeat to Italy having been pole-axed by a mis-timed tackle on prop Andrea Lo Cicero in the 56th minute.

He lay motionless on the turf at Canberra Stadium before being driven off the field on a stretcher.

After being assessed at the team hotel and at a Canberra hospital, Afeaki was cleared of concussion with team medics more concerned over possible ligament damage suffered in the same tackle.

But Afeaki took part in the squad’s recovery session in the swimming pool this morning, and is expected to be considered for the Pool D match against Wales.

The side will be named tomorrow.
