RTÉ today announced details of television coverage for the forthcoming Rugby World Cup, which takes place this October in Australia.

There will be 20 matches covered live on RTÉ as well as highlights, including all those involving Ireland and the final stages of the competition. Tom McGurk will anchor the programmes, with analysis and discussion from Brent Pope and George Hook.

Niall Cogley, RTÉ Head of Sport, said: "We’re very pleased to be able to offer a comprehensive package of matches and highlights for the game’s biggest tournament this autumn. Irish rugby has gone from strength to strength at all levels in recent years and I believe our programming has reflected that. RTÉ’s rugby team will ensure the best possible coverage all the way to the final in Sydney."

John O’Brien, Executive Producer of RTÉ’s Rugby World Cup coverage, said: "With the memories of Lens four years ago still uppermost in the minds of Irish supporters, the clash of Argentina and Ireland in Adelaide on October 26 will be very eagerly anticipated.

"Our viewers can look forward to an exciting tournament, and we hope that Ireland’s best team for years can improve on their previous four World Cup performances."
