Rising star signs new Brumbies deal

Rising star Mark Gerrard has extended his Super 12 contract with the ACT Brumbies until 2005.

The Australia A and Under-21 winger scored a try on his Super 12 debut against the Sharks and was an ever-present this season as the Brumbies reached the semi-finals, scoring five tries in 11 matches overall.

“Mark has a big future at the Brumbies. He is one of number of young players making their mark and will be an important asset over the next couple of seasons,” said ACT chief Rob Clarke.

“He has thrived since joining the Brumbies programme and will only improve in the coming years.”

Brumbies coach David Nucifora added: “Mark was given an opportunity this season and certainly made the most of it.

“He grew in confidence after each match and was one of finds of the 2003 Super 12 competition. I’m looking forward to seeing him progress even further in 2004.”

Gerrard is currently playing club football in Sydney with Warringah and will return to the Brumbies for pre-season training in October.
