Skinstad making low key return

Former Springbok captain Bob Skinstad will finally make a return to competitive rugby when he turns out for the University of Cape Town’s club side this weekend.

Time is running out for the loose forward to prove his fitness to Springbok coach Rudolf Straeuli.

Skinstad needs matches under his belt after the Bok coach issued an ultimatum to him to play either provincial or club rugby while the Boks are in Australia or face missing the World Cup.

Skinstad has been accused by several provinces of being too greedy and demanding huge sums of money for one-off appearances.

The Mpumalanga Pumas and the Falcons were both interested in his services but declined on the basis that Skinstad wanted too much money.

Straeuli met with Skinstad before the South Africa side’s departure last week and issued the ultimatum for the flanker to get fit in time for the showpiece event in October.
