Foley out of Ireland summer tour

Munster and Shannon's Anthony Foley has been forced to cry off Ireland’s upcoming summer tour to Australia, Tonga and Samoa because of a neck injury.

His back row place will be filled by Aidan McCullen of Leinster and Lansdowne.

Foley’s withdrawal from the 41-man squad follows the unavailability (also because of injury) of Brian O’Driscoll (hamstring), Shane Horgan (thigh), John Hayes (groin), Jeremy Staunton (groin) and Neil Doak (shoulder).

Foley’s place at No. 8 in the Colours team to play Whites in a pre-tour training match at Thomond Park, Limerick tomorrow (kick off 5.30pm), will be taken by Victor Costello.

He switches teams from No. 6 on the Whites, with David Wallace moving from No. 7 to 6 on the Whites and Kieron Dawson being promoted from the Colours replacements to fill Wallace’s

original place on Whites.

The re-shaped Whites back row now reads: No. 6 – Wallace, No. 7 – Dawson, No. 8 – Eric Miller.

The back row vacancy in the Colours replacements will be filled by Denis Leamy of Munster and UCC.
