A rampant first half and strong finish propelled Buccaneers into the top four by virtue of a clearcut 51-5 AIB League Division One victory over Terenure College at Ericsson Park, Athlone.

Aided by a fresh breeze, Buccs forced the pace from the kick off and quickly settled with the help of two early Lee Turner penalties.

They scored a ‘magnificent seven’ tries in all, four in the opening half the first of which came from Conor O’Loughlin after 19 minutes.

The young scrumhalf notched his second in between tries by Justin Meagher and Darren Yapp with Turner adding three conversions for a 32-0 halftime lead.

Terenure enjoyed the better of the third quarter but had just a 54th minute try by substitute Cormac Egan to show for their endeavours before Buccs again upped the tempo.

Turner converted his own 72nd minute try before Meagher scampered in for his second.

Garreth Halligan, replacement hooker for injured man of the match Joe McVeigh, finished off another surging home move for the final try which Meagher converted to inflict further agony for the outclassed visitors.
