Champions Shannon boosted their top four play-off hopes with a resounding 55-22 victory over hapless UCD at Thomond Park.

Shannon ran in a total of eight tries during their most impressive league performance of the season.

The home side had secured a bonus point as early as the 29th minute with tries from Trevor Hogan, David O'Donovan (2) and Andrew Thompson.

Shannon led 29-3 at half-time and continued to dominate in all sectors. Thompson helped himself to 25 points including six conversions.

Second half tries from John Lacey, Thomson, Fiach O'Loughlin and Niall McNamara had Shannon 55-10 in front after 66 minutes.

UCD did add some respectability to the scoreboard with late touchdowns from Michael Moynagh and Damien McKenna.
