Rossouw released from London Irish

London Irish’s South African import Pieter Rossouw will leave the club at the end of this month.

Wing Rossouw, who won 42 caps for the Springboks, has made just eight appearances since joining the Exiles earlier this year.

The 31-year-old, who has been hampered by a hamstring injury this season, has found his way blocked due to the foreign players’ quotas, which has been regularly filled by his fellow South Africans player-coach Brendan Venter and hooker Naka Drotske.

Irish say that they cannot see the circumstances changing in the “foreseeable future” so the decision has been taken to release Rossouw six months into a two-year contract.

“It is very unfortunate that things have worked out the way they have through an unforeseen combination of circumstances,” said Irish rugby director Conor O’Shea.

“It has been a privilege to have a player of Pieter’s experience at London Irish. The club wishes him and his family all the very best for the future.”
