St Mary's edged out AIB League champions Shannon in a hugely entertaining game at Templeville Road, Dublin.

Mary's enjoyed the better of the opening half with a Gareth Gannon try to help establish a half-time lead of 13-3.

Shannon replied after the break with trys from Dougie Walters and John O'Neill bringing them back to within one point of Mary's who added a penalty from Barry Lynn after the break.

It was nip and tuck until the end, but a John Ryan try after 66 minutes sealed the game for Mary's.
