Munster's disastrous close season deteriorated even further as an MRBI scan confirmed that left wing Anthony Horgan will be out for the best part of six months with a shoulder injury.

Munster's disastrous close season deteriorated even further as an MRBI scan confirmed that left wing Anthony Horgan will be out for the best part of six months with a shoulder injury.

"He will have to have surgery to correct an unstable shoulder joint. Medical advice suggests he will be out for six months," said Munster PRO Pat Geraghty.

He joins Irish Internationals Paul O'Connell and David Wallace in the sick room.

As Munster have exhausted their overseas allotment, coach Alan Gaffney may have to search through the domestic game for a replacement.

New signing Eddie Halvey is expected to fly in at the weekend to meet up with his teammates.

He will re-enter the Munster set-up after a successful stint with London Irish.
