Heineken Cup final a sell-out

The Heineken Cup final at the Millennium Stadium is a 74,000 sell-out, beating the crowd for the FA Cup final.

Defending champions Leicester Tigers and Munster have out-sold the May 4 FA Cup final at the Welsh venue, which saw Arsenal beat Chelsea 2-0.

The attendance for the Heineken Cup final on May 25 will top the 68,441 who were at Twickenham two years ago and will also be a record level for rugby supporters from outside Wales for any match staged at the Millennium Stadium.

‘‘The phenomenal interest in the Heineken Cup final is such that we could have sold thousands of additional tickets, especially in Ireland, as was also the case for the Leicester semi-final against Llanelli in Nottingham last month,’’ said Derek McGrath, European Rugby Cup Chief Executive.

‘‘We are committed to growing the final of the Heineken Cup to becoming a major European event and the decision that was taken in September to announce the final venue in advance of the beginning of the tournament confirms we are on the right road.’’
