AIL: Garryowen book semis place

Garryowen 42 UCD 24

Garryowen made sure of their place in the semi-finals with a convincing and impressive 42-24 victory over UCD at Dooradoyle.

It was a good day for winger Kevin O'Riordain and skipper Colin Varley, both of whom scored two tries, while Jeremy Staunton kept the scoreboard ticking over as he scored a spectacular try with a 60-yard run and also kicked three penalties and four conversions.

UCD kept in the hunt for most of an entertaining afternoon, during which the highly-promising scrum-half Brian O'Riordain ran from well inside his own half for a try and out-half Eoghan Hickey landed a spectacular penalty from 60 metres.
