Galwegians put paid to Blackrock's chances
Galwegians 40
Blackrock College 18
Galwegians put paid to the outside chances of Blackrock College nailing a top four finish when they struck early and late to see off the challenge of Shane Byrne and company at Crowley Park.
Galwegians looked early on as if they would run riot, a try from Peter Bracken and the ever accurate boot of Eric Elwood easing them into a 13-0 lead after as many minutes.
Blackrock rallied and by half-time were just a point adrift, 16-15, thanks to tries from James Ferris and Nathan Turner.
Conor Kilroy¹s second penalty of the day edged Blackrock 18-16 in front three minutes after the restart but that was the only time they were ahead.
Mervyn Murphy got in for a try after 54 minutes which Elwood converted before adding a penalty on a day of flawless kicking by the forner Irish fly-half.
Galwegians sealed a bonus point in the closing stages when first replacement hooker Marnus Uijs was sent crashing over and then in stoppage time winger Ger Brady intercepted just outside his own 22 to race the length of the field and touch down under the posts.
