Tom Cregan was Shannon’s hero in the Limerick derby as Shannon swept into the AIB League First Division semi-finals.

The flying winger scored all his side’s points with a converted try and five penalties at Dooradoyle.

Garryowen, for whom Jeremy Staunton kicked four penalties and Killian Keane another, collected a bonus point for losing by seven points.

Cregan’s try came after 31 minutes following an Andrew Thompson floated pass and it helped Shannon lead 13-12 at the break.

Three second-half penalties did the trick for Shannon on the resumption.
