Rugby: Wales snatch victory from Irish U21s

Ireland 36 - 38 Wales

Gavin Henson, the young international rugby board player of the year, got over in the corner in the fourth minute of injury time to give the Welsh U21s a deserved victory over their Irish counterparts at Donnybrook today.

It took a strike against the head to deny the Irish, after Welsh centre Hal Luscombe had the ball knocked out of his hands while in the act of diving over the line seconds before half-time.

Wales dragged for much of the game with tries from left-wing Nicky Jones, right-wing Liam Roberts and blindside Rhys Williams, only for the Irish to stay in touch thanks to their hard-working pack of forwards.

Although they did not have the punch in attack, they did have out-half Ian Humphries, brother of senior international David, to kick their points.

Tries from Denis Leamy (2) and Martin McPhail kept the Irish close until Humphries' 79th minute penalty almost gave them the win they did not really deserve.
