Rugby: Gloucester coach considers position

Gloucester coach Philippe Saint-Andre is planning a press conference next week to clarify his future with the club.

The former France captain’s contract at Kingsholm expires in the summer but he has been involved in talks with club owner Tom Walkinshaw over a new deal for several weeks.

Saint-Andre, whose coaching methods were last week openly criticised by rugby league recruit Henry Paul, has been linked with a return to France with Bourgoin.

At least two other French clubs are also thought to be interested in Saint- Andre, who joined Gloucester as a player in May 1997 and was elevated to coaching director in February 1999 following Richard Hill’s departure.

Saint-Andre says he is likely to hold the press conference on Tuesday.
