Heineken Cup: Leinster maintain 100% record

Newcastle Falcons 15, Leinster 17 (full-time)

Leinster survived a late rally by Newcastle to maintain their 100% record this season as they defeated the Falcons in their re-arranged Heineken Cup tie in Headingley tonight.

Dennis Hickie scored Leinster’s first try and Nathan Spooner duly converted.

The sides were level at seven apiece after Tom Fay went over the line for the Falcons and Jonny Wilkinson converted.

Leinster edged ahead with a penalty by Brian O’Meara.

However, Jonny Wilkinson replied with a penalty to leave the sides level at 10 all at the interval.

Early in the second half Ben Willis scored Leinster's second try and O'Meara also converted the scrum-half's try.

Inga Tuigamala went over the line late on for Newcastle - however, his try was not converted which left Leinster with a slender two point lead in the final minutes.

The game was postponed twice during the weekend due to a frozen pitch in Newcastle, leaving the European Cup organisers with no choice but to switch the game to Leeds.

Because of the delay in playing the game, Leinster’s final group game against Toulouse has been put back by one day and will now be played on Sunday afternoon rather than Saturday evening.
