AIB League: Shannon win Limerick derby

Shannon cemented their play-off hopes with a deserved 19-point win over great rivals Young Munster at Thomond Park.

The home side laid the foundation for this win in the opening half after which they led 24-6.

Ironically, it was former Young Munster star Tom Cregan who kicked Shannon into a 12-0 lead after 20 minutes thanks to four penalties.

Excellent tries from David Quinlan and an opportunist touchdown from full-back John Lacey helped Shannon stretch clear.

Young Munster did improve their display after the break and centre Clem Casey scored the try of the match following an excellent flowing move in the 25th minute.

However, Munsters were unable to breach a watertight Shannon defence in the closing quarter and the home side were good value for this latest victory.
