Rugby: Buccaneers win easily at home
Buccaneers 28, Garryowen 16 (full-time)
Buccaneers celebrated the return of their contracted interprovincial players with a comprehensive victory over Garryowen at Ballinasloe¹s Moher Road today.
Garryowen were left chasing a 16 - 0 deficit after 25 minutes thanks to a dominant Buccaneers pack who forced their opponents on the back foot for much of the match.
Buccaneers breakthrough came after 19 minutes from a quickly-taken free. No 8 Colm Rigney and O¹Loughlin did the leg work for fullback Wayne Munn to score in the corner.
Garryowen outhalf Billy Treacy kicked a penalty before the interval and another four minutes after the restart, but Buccaneers added two more tries from Ted Robinson and Timm Allnutt.
Although Jeremey Staunton notched a 57th minute try which Treacy converted, and a further penalty, that was as good as it got for the Limerick outfit.
