A try for full-back Peter McKenna helped defending champions St Mary's College become the first team to win in Temple Hill in three years with Cork Con leading 27-24 and full-time almost up.

Cork Con 27, St Mary's College 29 (full-time)

A try for full-back Peter McKenna helped defending champions St Mary's College become the first team to win in Temple Hill in three years with Cork Con leading 27-24 and full-time almost up.

McKenna struck for the winning try which was not more than Mary's deserved.

They led at half-time 17-8 with Dennis Hickie and Eddie Hekenui scoring first-half tries.

They led 24-8 midway through the second half before a Brian Walsh try, three penalties from Brian O'Meara and a Conor Mahony drop goal helped Cork Con to a 27-24 lead which looked to be good enough for a win until McKenna's late strike.
