Six Nations: Scottish trio win A-team call

Three players have been called into the Scotland A squad for their Six Nations meeting with Wales A in Edinburgh on Friday (7pm).

To accommodate the withdrawal through injury of Steve Brotherstone and the promotion of Steve Scott to the senior squad to cover the loss of injured hooker Robert Russell, Peter Robertson (Edinburgh Reivers) and Gavin Scott (Glasgow Caledonians) have both been called up.

A decision on which hooker starts the match will be made tomorrow.

One further change sees Doddie Weir stand down on account of the rib damage he sustained playing for his club, Newcastle Falcons, against Bath last weekend.

Carl Hogg (Edinburgh Reivers) is enlisted to the A squad and a decision who starts alongside Iain Fullarton in the second-row will also be made tomorrow.

In Weir’s absence the captaincy will be taken on by Graeme Burns (Edinburgh Reivers) who has previously led the Scotland Sevens side and Edinburgh Reivers.

Scotland A squad for Friday’s match against Wales A at Myreside (7pm): Glenn Metcalfe; Jon Steel (both Glasgow Caledonians), David Officer, Kevin Utterson (both Edinburgh Reivers), Shaun Longstaff (Glasgow Caledonians); Gordon Ross, Graeme Burns (capt, both Edinburgh Reivers); Paul Johnstone (Bristol), Gavin Scott (Glasgow Caledonians), Barry Stewart (Edinburgh Reivers), Steve Griffiths (Glasgow Caledonians), Iain Fullarton, Don Mackinnon, Simon Taylor (all Edinburgh Reivers), Andrew Mower (Newcastle Falcons).
