Maurice Noonan kicked the winning points, brilliantly juding his effort from out wide and against the wind.

Regular goal kicker Craig Casey, who departed injured, had earlier kicked Ard Scoil six ahead at the break with a brace of penalties.

But CBC sub Scott Buckley got in for a try, converted by Eoin Monahan and Christians looked to have slavaged the win before Noonan became ther hero.

Elsewhere, tries in each half by Ronan Quinn and Andrew Hogan along with two successful penalties and a conversion by Ben Healy earned Glenstal Abbey an 18-0 win over Rockwell College.

And Presentation Brothers College overcame a courageous Crescent College Comprehensive effort to book their semi-final place with a 16-3 win at Lansdowne.

Billy Scannell was driven over by the rest of the pack to give the tournament favourites the ideal start. Wing Sam O’Donovan got the second try and Peter Sylvester kicked a clever drop-goal.

Mark Shanahan kicked a penalty for Crescent.
