Second half tries ensure Munster Junior Cup victory for Crescent in replay

This replayed final, after a 16-16 draw in Cork three weeks ago, was always well contested, but Crescent’s superior ability out wide won the day and they grabbed two excellent second half tries to overcome CBC who had held a 7-5 half time lead.

Crescent lost the last three finals after winning two on the trot in 2010 and 2011; last year they lost to Christians, so today was an opportunity for revenge.

Crescent actually took the lead after five minutes from Jack Madden but Christians came back and scored from their number eight, a try that was converted by Billy Cain.

Crescent had to fight to gain the upper hand but their second try in 48 minutes was worth the wait. Remarkably it came from a prop but most of the good approach work came from the backs who took full part in supporting Jamin Hoffman when he made a superb 40 metre break. Skipper John Hurley edged his side into a 12-7 lead and Crescent finally sealed victory with an injury time try from Ben Carew.
