O’Shea (45) has confirmed he has held talks with the Italian Federation about the possibility of replacing Jacques Brunel after next year’s Six Nations campaign. And Irish legend Ronan O’Gara has already been linked as part of a potentially exciting management team.

O’Gara declined to comment on the speculation when contacted last night, but such a move seems unlikely at this early stage of his coaching career.

O’Shea cooled talk on the Italy link yesterday, but is still intrigued by the prospect of international management.

“Italy have been on and talked to me, but that’s natural. That happens in every walk of life,” said O’Shea. “It’s flattering, but no, I’m not going anywhere. My job is here (at Harlequins) and I want to make sure we continue it.

“It’s really nice to be mentioned like that - a massive honour,” he added.

Harlequins are currently fourth in the Premiership table with four wins from their opening six matches.
