Clontarf star Matt D’Arcy scoops awards double

Clontarf centre Matt D’Arcy missed out on the Division 1A title last weekend, but there was some consolation back at the Aviva Stadium last night as he scooped a pair of gongs at the third annual Ulster Bank League Awards.

D’Arcy picked up his Ulster Bank Top Try Scorer prize and was also named Ulster Bank Player of the Year for Division 1A.

For title winners Lansdowne, Cian Kelleher lifted the Ulster Bank Rising Star of the Year, having won the monthly award earlier in the season. Josh Glynn of Old Belvedere bagged the Ulster Bank Top Points Scorer award while Young Munster coach, John Staunton, took home the Ulster Bank Coach of the Year – Division 1A title.

Old Wesley also enjoyed a rewarding night among the cream of Irish club rugby, as Ireland head coach, Joe Schmidt presented awards in 11 different categories. Ian Cassidy was named Ulster Bank Player of the Year – Division 2A, Alan Large collected the Ulster Bank Leinster Player of the Year, Thomas O’Brien won Ulster Bank PRO of the Year and Old Wesley’s 1st XV earning Ulster Bank’s Newstalk Team of the Year.

Ger Slattery of Young Munster was named Munster Player of the Year, while Neil Faloon of Armagh also did a double, winning the Ulster Bank Player of Year – Division 2B and Ulster Bank Ulster Player of the Year prizes. Galwegians star, John Cleary took home the Ulster Bank Player of the Year – Division 1B and Ulster Bank Connacht Player of the Year’ awards.
