Rory Scannell in kicking form for Munster ‘A’
It was the visitors who crossed first in the 22nd minute with prop Bronson Ross barrelling over off a close-range lineout. Munster responded with their first try seven minutes later, impressive back row Shane Buckley crossing for the first of two with Rory Scannell converting. The out-half finished with 15 points.
Ulster hit back when Paddy Butler was sin-binned and from the lineout were awarded a penalty try after Munster collapsed the maul. Jackson converted with Scannell adding another penalty for Munster who led 13-12 at the break.
Ulster retook the lead in the 49th minute, with centre Mike Stanley cutting a good line to cross over but the see-saw nature of the game saw Munster respond quickly, with scrum-half Neil Cronin knifing over. When Buckley touched down again on the hour mark, Munster were in a commanding ten-point lead.
But back came Ulster again as they earned another penalty try, this time from a five-metre scrum and in the closing stages it was the visitors who did all the pressing. But Munster defended resolutely and Scannell sealed the win, converting a penalty with the last kick of the game.
