The Munster scrum-half has faced the French five times now and the only loss was his first in a meaningless World Cup warm-up. England, by way of contrast, have had the better of his Ireland outfit all three times.

Stuart Lancaster’s side were the last to have Ireland’s number, in Twickenham in last year’s Six Nations, which means Ireland take a run of nine games unbeaten into their next meeting, at the Aviva Stadium in a fortnight.
