Tech company to live stream club games

A satellite over the Sahara Desert will be deployed this season to beam Ulster Bank League games onto computer screens.

The broadcasting of a number of Division 1A games this season begins tomorrow night at Belfield when the clash between UCD and St Mary’s College becomes the first match to be live streamed on Irish Rugby TV following a partnership struck between the IRFU and VideosOnTheNet. The technology aligns a satellite dish using the co-ordinates of the club ground and locking onto a spot beam from a satellite which is located over the Sahara Desert, with every Ulster Bank League Division 1A club now able to live stream in high definition via the IRFU website.

“We’ve successfully tested the technology at all 10 Division 1A clubs and the new uplink capacity means we can provide Irish Rugby TV with live streams to viewers in HD, high, medium, low, and mobile feeds from selected games throughout the season,” VideosOnTheNet founder John Sherwin said.

Irish Rugby TV plans to this season double the number of games covered from last season’s total of 14, including the live streaming of a number of Ulster Bank League ‘Friday Night Lights’ fixtures.
