The open side dotted down early in each half while fly-half Andrew O’Byrne added a penalty and conversion which proved enough for the Limerick side to claim the spoils.

Dolphin fly-half Barry Keeshan kicked penalties in each half to keep Dolphin in contention. But the hosts only really threatened the Garryowen line on one occasion, when prop Dave Hartnett was help up after crashing over, and the lead was never in danger after O’Mahony’s second try on fifty minutes.
