Munster will go into the game knowing exactly what is required of them to secure one of the two best-runners-up spots in the quarter-finals but have to assume it will take the maximum five points to edge into the last eight ahead of either Montpellier or Leinster.

On the evidence of Munster’s form since Christmas, when three games have returned just five tries in total, that might appear a tall order. Criticism has rained down on the more expansive game plan devised by head coach Rob Penney that his players have so far struggled to execute.
