Ulster back row Stephen Ferris yesterday underwent surgery in a bid to repair a troublesome ankle tendon injury.

Ferris has suffered an ankle tendon problem since Ulster’s RaboDirect Pro12 clash with Edinburgh on November 2, which caused him to miss all of Ireland’s autumn internationals.

An Ulster Rugby statement last night added: “Stephen will be reviewed in the coming weeks to establish an accurate time period for recovery and to assess when he will be fit to return to play.”
