Prendergast geared for ‘testing’ Cork trip

Young Munster coach Mike Prendergast hopes his side can maintain their superb early season form ahead of today’s trip to Cork Con.

While Prendergast’s side secured a bonus point victory in the Limerick derby against Shannon and held out to secure a much welcomed win over St Mary’s, the coach is aware today’s clash in Cork is a huge challenge.

“Our opening series of games is as testing as you could get, but then again that’s what the competition is all about,” he said.

Young Munster will be seeking the victory to help them keep pace or leapfrog Lansdowne, who lead on points difference following consecutive victories over Old Belvedere and Shannon.

Malone and UCD are setting the pace in Division 1B with each secured bonus points victories to give them a maximum ten points.

Malone whipped Ballymena 60-0 in round two and today they entertain Bruff, whose one win was against the Eaton Park outfit in round one but who are unlikely to cause an upset. UCD, at home to Ballynahinch, might have to work a little harder but should be good enough to stretch that winning run to three.

Division 2A pace-setters Banbridge and Corinthians are both home today to Highfield and Cashel respectively, and both Munster clubs are well capable of stretching their opponents.
