Those perceptions that followed the provinces around during the 2000s have been put to bed for a variety of reasons, but a lot of emphasis has been put recently on Munster’s new all-singing, all-dancing style under Rob Penney.

Throughout their chequered Heineken Cup history, Munster have produced some stunning running rugby in big games. The length-of-the-field team try that stunned Toulouse in Bordeaux in 2000 is the most memorable, but they also did it to the Ospreys in 2009, with the odd individual score — Barry Murphy’s slalom against Sale in 2006 comes to mind — in between.
