Glenstal bid to finish the job

Fans will be hoping for a repeat of last week’s 22-22 thriller when Glenstal Abbey and Presentation Brothers lock horns again at Clifford Park, Limerick today (3pm) in the Avonmore Milk Munster Schools Senior Cup quarter-final.

Glenstal bid to finish the job

A six-try cliffhanger ended with Glenstal feeling the more aggrieved, after they powered to a seemingly unassailable 22-8 lead before relinquishing two converted tries in the last 14 minutes against a dogged Pres team.

Pres have been dealt a huge blow with the loss of full-back Steve Dinan, who scored a try and kept his nerve to kick the conversions that put them back in the hunt late in the drawn game.

Dinan has a broken collarbone and has been replaced by Brian Crowley, who moves from the wing to allow Peter O’Brien a start.

Flanker Will Foley is a doubtful starter and Kieran Farmer is on standby.

Glenstal have their problems too, with influential out-half Luke Bradley battling to stay in the starting line up after shipping a heavy upper body knock last week. Kevin O’Keeffe is the likely replacement.

Glenstal will be favourites to complete the job today.

The junior section of the Avonmore sponsored tournaments continue today, with Castletroy College taking on the more experienced Crescent at Annacotty (3pm).

Castletroy have an added incentive to succeed following the recent presentation by the school of a new trophy in honour of former teacher Eamonn Mulcahy, who tragically died of cancer in 2010.

Glenstal’s juniors travel to Cork to take on CBC (Temple Hill, 3pm), while Pres play St Munchin’s at the same grade in Musgrave Park (3pm).
