O’Connell blames a bad start and even worse finish to last week’s home tie against Wales for leaving them with an uphill championship struggle, citing basic errors and slack defending as key issues.

“We have a lot to improve on, certainly some of basic errors made early on,” he said. “There was the ball to Bradley Davies in an early line out, and a couple of missed tackles that helped Wales gain momentum and put pressure on us.”
