Ardscoil enjoyed a three-point advantage entering the final quarter but had to be at their most resilient to resist a series of Glenstal attacks. However, the siege was lifted when Ardscoil number eight Shane Fenton intercepted a pass 40 metres out and scored between the Glenstal posts and David O’Mahony converted.
A 17-7 score line certainly flattered Ardscoil. They took the lead on nine minutes when winger Lloyd White finished off a fine movement in which Paul McNamara played a leading role. David O’Mahony converted and landed a fine penalty from near the right touch line in the 18th minute to push Ardscoil ten points clear.
The second-half, however, saw Glenstal taking over and they narrowed the gap 11 minutes after the restart when second-row Neilus Mulvihill forced his way over a series of rucks and mauls close to the Ardscoil line. Battle was really joined when captain Max Ryan converted but Glenstal were kept at bay before Fenton pounced to put the issue beyond doubt.
