Experienced Midleton seek to rattle Ardscoil

THE Avonmore Milk Munster Schools’ Senior Cup kicks off at Towns Park, Midleton today (2.30pm) when the local Midleton College host Ardscoil Rís, the winners going on to meet CBC, Cork.

Midleton have already beaten B school rivals Bandon Grammar to secure a place in the draw and they will be hoping to cause a surprise against one of the bigger schools.

They believe this is one of their most experienced teams of recent years, most now in the final year of the senior cycle, while the Limerick team are mostly younger, with just a few survivors from last year.

Midleton will be captained by Munster Schools centre Ned Hodson Their strength is in the pack, but Hodson and full-back Ben Mitchell can be expected to cause the visitors some problems.

Ardscoil Rís are a well balanced team but they will look to lively front rower Conor Glynn and second row Patrick Kearns to help them combat the Midleton eight. Midleton have left a vacancy on the wing in the hope that the injured Louis Farnham will recover in time. The Ardscoil line-up hasn’t been finalised.
