Edinburgh off the mark

EDINBURGH took the spoils last night to claim their first win of the RaboDirect Pro 12 season at Connacht’s expense who had to settle for an away bonus point.

The home side led 6-0 at the break thanks to two penalties from Greig Laidlaw. The big breakthrough came after Niall O’Connor’s attempted chip was blocked down an replacement scrum-half Gregor Hunter claimed the touchdown with Laidlaw adding the extras. O’Connor made amends with a try for Connacht and Matthew Jarvis had a couple of penalties but it proved futile.

CONNACHT: G Duffy (cpt), M McCrea, H Fa’afili, E Griffin, T O’Halloran, M Jarvis, F Murphy, R Loughney, E Reynecke, R Ah You, M McCarthy, M Swift, J Muldoon, J O’Connor, G Naoupu.
