Toulon reprieve for Henson

GAVIN HENSON will remain at Toulon for at least the rest of the season after the club decided not to terminate his contract.

The Welsh centre was alleged to have had a row with Jonny Wilkinson and Australian scrum-half Matt Henjakin during the celebrations of a victory over Toulouse a month ago.

Henson was suspended for a week and put on gardening leave, leading to reports he would be sacked by Toulon president Mourad Boudjellal.

However, Boudjellal and coach Philippe Saint-André met the player yesterday and decided to end the suspension.

Henson trained with the squad yesterday and will be considered for the final match of the regular Top 14 season, away to Montpellier. Toulon will probably need to win to make the play-offs.

Henson had said before his suspension that he would like a two-year extension to his contract, but his value to the club is diminished by the centre’s determination to play for Wales in the World Cup. Newport Gwent Dragons have said they would be interested in signing Henson.

Toulon, who will be without Wilkinson and Matt Giteau during the tournament, have been linked with England outhalf Danny Cipriani, who would be available as it will be the off season for his Super 15 franchise, Melbourne Rebels.
