Foley to replace Fisher as forwards coach

HEINEKEN Cup winning captain Anthony Foley is poised for promotion to forwards coach with Munster after the province announced yesterday that incumbent Laurie Fisher will leave at the end of the season.

Munster say they expect to appoint Fisher’s replacement “shortly”, suggesting the appointment will come from within the existing coaching set-up. While Foley’s appointment should not be considered a fait accompli, he is the likely successor to Fisher.

Munster chief executive Garrett Fitzgerald said they were indebted to the former Brumbies coach, who arrived in 2008 at a time of transition in both personnel and playing terms. “His experience as a head coach fully complemented what was at that time a young management team,” said Fitzgerald.
