Richards: I’m ‘mortified’ by Bloodgate role

DEAN RICHARDS last night admitted to being “mortified” over his role in the so-called ‘Bloodgate’ scandal at Harlequins.

In a statement Richards confirmed he ordered Tom Williams to fake a blood injury in the dying minutes of Harlequins’ Heineken Cup quarter-final against Leinster last season.

Richards stated it was not until eight days later that he discovered Williams had insisted on having his own lip cut to cover up the fabrication.
