Kidney set to delay decision on O’Driscoll

DECLAN KIDNEY hinted strongly last night that he will wait until close to the season’s first game against Australia at Croke Park in November before announcing whether or not Brian O’Driscoll is to retain the captaincy.

O’Driscoll led his country to an historic Grand Slam triumph last season but was subsequently passed over for leadership of the Lions in favour of Paul O’Connell.

Kidney revealed he has discussed the situation with O’Driscoll and added: “I think we will do the same as last year. It has been reasonably well documented that he had some laser surgery on the eyes over the past two weeks.
