A SECOND British and Irish Lions tour has ended prematurely for Brian O’Driscoll, who returns home today after being ruled out of the third and final Test against South Africa at Ellis Park on Saturday.

After a triumphant year when Ireland won the Six Nations Grand Slam and Leinster the Heineken Cup, O’Driscoll regretfully bows out of his third Lions tour – which he suspects will be his last.

But interviewed by the Irish Examiner before departing today, he delivered a stringing rebuke to Springbok coach Peter de Villiers, whom he criticised for implying that eye gouging was part of the game.
