IRFU set for €15m Puma deal

IRISH rugby is set to benefit to the tune of €15m after agreeing a new sponsorship deal with sportswear manufacturer, Puma.

It is believed the new multi-million, eight-year deal has already been struck with the German sportswear manufacturer in what is massive coup for the IRFU in a time of economic uncertainty.

The IRFU’s current four-year contract with New Zealand manufacturer, Canterbury Clothing Company, which was worth up to €8m since 2005, expires at the end of this season.

Last night the IRFU confirmed that talks had taken place with a number of interested sponsors, but it appears Puma have won the race.

“The current contract with Canterbury is finishing at the end of this season and the IRFU have been in discussions with other interested parties. An announcement will be made in due course,” said an IRFU spokesman last night.
