Stringer inspiration for children’s book

IRISH international scrum-half Peter Stringer was the inspiration for a book by author and illustrator Annie West, which will be launched in Galway tomorrow.

West was taken with Stringer’s tackle on a “giant” French player in 2006. She explained: “I was watching the Munster/Biarritz rugby match on the big screen in Limerick when I saw Peter take down the No 15 Brusque (Nicholas) who was easily twice his size. And with that historic, nifty try he scored in the Heineken Cup final, I felt it was appropriate to write a children’s book about how you can succeed even when you’re small.”

Moxie the Underdog is a story about tenacity in the face of impossible odds. Even though Moxie has been mistreated and bullied all his life he makes his way in the world with an adventurous spirit, good manners and buckets of bravery.
